*2006 | Genre: Country | Country Rock | Songwriter*Veronica Leigh was born and raised in California. She has been surrounded by
music her whole life, and took on the role of performer quite easily. Both
her grandmother and her mother were singers and dancers and from a very
young age it was apparent that Veronica loved to perform but mostly loved to
sing. She would dance around listening to the sounds of Jazz, Blues and
Country. Some of the first songs she ever sang were those of Aretha
Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, and Patsy Cline. She learned how to do licks and
harmonize by studying horn music her father would listen to and singing
along. She was known for gathering the family in the living room for one of her
"shows" in full costume and make-up. Nothing was done on less than an
extreme level and after the show was over she continued to bow until all the
clapping had stopped. When Veronica was four years old she moved with her
parents to Pacific Grove CA. This is where she grew up and considers herself
to be from and it was around this time that Veronica began her life in
performance. Pacific Grove is a small town and the performance opportunities
are minimal but Veronica, with the help of her parents, became involved in
as many performance based activities as possible. She began taking dance
lessons of all kinds; tap, jazz, ballet and modern at a local dance studio,
and flamenco lessons with her mother. Although she loved dance, and dance
shows, it just didn't seem to satisfy her need to perform. The next venue was the theater. Veronica began auditioning for plays and
recording opportunities all around the area. She performed in numerous
dramatic plays and musicals and began to make a name for herself in her
local theater community. It wasn't long before people began calling and
requesting her to audition and she was not even in middle school yet. At
this age Veronica also began learning how to play the violin and piano and
began taking professional voice lessons all while continuing her dance. She
sang many songs and backup parts for local artists making albums,
educational materials and commercial jingles. She even sang descant on the
Sandals Christmas album at the end of her fifth grade year. Her mom was
surprised to see that Veronica loved the studio just as much as she loved
the stage. When Veronica entered middle school she joined the school chorus and
participated in the annual school musical. She also sang once in awhile with
the adult choir at her church. Towards the end of middle school, Veronica
was given the opportunity to play the part of Arrietty in the world premier
reading of The Borrowers Musical. She continued all of her previous
activities but for some reason was still not satisfied. Veronica began
looking outside of her community for bigger options. She began looking
toward expanding her career into the recording industry. She would travel to
and from San Francisco and Los Angeles on weekends and after school to
audition, perform, and take classes. She would listen cautiously to any
advice she could get trying to learn her craft inside and out. When Veronica started high school she was sure she had exhausted all of her
resources. She had made several contacts in LA and began using their advice
and other contacts to help her choose where to go next. She continued the
constant traveling and searching of opportunities while trying to remain a
"normal high school kid", but she wanted more. All her contacts and
information told her that she needed to make a professional demo. She spent
the next year making her first demo and participating in local competitions
and shows in the LA area. Through these shows Veronica met writing and
producing team who offered her an even bigger step in her career. Her first summer break from the University of Arizona was not a break at
all, she spent her finals week packing up her dorm and registering for
classes at the Berklee College of Music Intensive Summer Semester. Those
three months in Boston completely changed her mindset and strengthened her
will to keep driving towards what she wanted. She took music business
classes, music technology classes and technique, read as many books on the
music business and the music industry as possible and continuously listened
to any music she could get her hands on. She felt that working with the
writing producing team she had met was her best option so she got in contact
with them again. She recorded a 3 song demo of original material and hit the
ground running with it. She began her first real outreach campaign
contacting labels, producers, venues and fellow artists. She was moving
forward and learning everyday but her hunger for success was not satiated.
Through meeting with label heads and artists she would gather new ideas and
goals, constantly trying to move to the next level. She continued her efforts towards her career during her three years in
college and graduated with a degree in Journalism and Spanish. Focusing on
perfecting her songwriting and musical knowledge she sat in on music classes
every spare second she had. It was her last year when she decided moving to
Nashville was the next logical step. Although she had explored the idea of
moving to LA or New York, something about Music City was calling to her. Now
at the age of 22 she is living out her dream of singing country music in
Nashville, TN. She performs her own material every chance she gets, and sits
in on other shows. She is constantly writing, recording, and singing
backgrounds for other artists, whatever she can do to keep moving. Her style is a mix of all the music she has experienced throughout her
journeys in life. She loves country but adds her own sassy edge and blues
influence to the beat. She tends to write edgy songs from the heart and is
not afraid to write songs that might shock people. Veronica is trying to
stay loyal to country's roots but can't help mixing in a little California
flavor. Her new self produced album "Outlawed Angel," on which she wrote 6
of the 10 tracks, will be her first chance to bring her style out to the
world. Veronica wants to be able to reach people as an artist with her
lyrics and music, and leave her mark in music history forever.*Tracklist:*01. Bring Me Down
