Burl is a mentally challenged warehouse worker who spends most of his days working quietly, passing his daysby vicariously living through the paintings he comes into contact with. Burl treats each painting with care andlove, as though they were his “[CENSORED]ren,†the paintings are his life, what he lives for.
One day, a particular painting catches Burl’s eye, one of a beautiful woman in Victorian attire. The portrait isentitled Portrait of Simone. Burl becomes obsessed with the painting and as he daydreams, he fantasizes that hecan pass into Simone’s world and experience what she experiences. Reaching out for the canvas, to his amazementthe canvas ripples and he is able to pass into Simone’s world.
Once inside, Simone shows Burl a world that he has never known, one of vivid sexual escapades and sensuality.Burl soon discovers that when you live in a fantasy world, your sense of reality becomes distorted, often costingyou more than you bargained for.
