A Man with a Maid The Naughty Victorians: An Erotic Tale of a Maiden's Revenge (USA) (long title)
Artful, funny, just plain sexy. One thing I remember clearly, the credits list the lead actor who plays Jack as Beerbohm Tree, who was a famous actor in Victorian England (and the illegitimate grandfather of the late Oliver Reed!). This is but one of the various verbal, visual, and musical puns that are set up with great success in the film. The final scene, set to "Punishment Fit the Crime" is truly memorable! The set design, attractive cast, and G&S soundtrack combine to make this a gem in an otherwise unremarkable era for "erotica." I also remember that it was the most unpopular movie we showed at the drive-in porn theatre I worked out in the late 70's, and that alone attests to its higher level of intelligence! Love to know if anyone knows how to get a copy of this in any format!
Review by Bradley Milton / AVN: The Naughty Victorians resembles a sexed-up hammer horror flick. Beerbohm Tree - the spitting image of Roger Daltry - stars in this 1976 re-release concerning a British libertine, who charms the hoop skirts off chaste victims in his soundproofed photography studio, equipped, naturally, with shackles and mirrors that descend from the ceiling. Playing like the profligate playboy cross between Oscar Wilde / Dr. Frankenstein / Marquis de Sade, Tree steals the erotic show. The highlight (other than the convincing period Decor and pithy performances) occurs when the naughtiest Victorian simultaneously seduces a proper Lady and her [CENSORED]-looking daughter in his nest of perversions. With sumptuous visuals that linger between hardcore and soft, this film gracefully - and thankfully - defies the conventional.
